(AI KB) Installing Field Data Collector for Windows

Purpose: Demonstrate how to install Field Data Collector (FDC) for Windows

Additional Information/Disclaimer: Field Data Collector for Windows is a standalone application - surveys/work accepted on another device (Such as a Mesa3) will not automatically transfer over. This functionality is often referred to as 'Pick up Where you left Off'. Required Network Access: 

The device running the application will need Network Access to the following End Points - failure to have access to these endpoints will impact the ability to use the application.

Installation Steps

  1. Download the Installer Application using the link below:
    Navigate to the Downloads Section


    PCS Field Data Collector v2.0 Support Site


  2. Locate the Installer Application in your files (The Default Location should be your Downloads Folder) and Launch the Installer (Click 'Install')



  3. The installer should run quickly - note that upon launch you may get asked to install .NET


    • Upon Launching the application, you may get prompted to install or update .NET (Screenshot Below) - Select 'Download it Now'



      This is required for the application to run. The FDC application will not run without .NET 


    • Locate the Installer for .NET in your files (The Default Location should be your Downloads Folder) and Launch the Installer



      When you launch the Installer for .NET - it will look similar to the above image. Select 'Install' and run through the Install prompts.

  4. Once FDC properly installed (and .NET as well, if it was prompted) you will be asked to login - PRIOR TO LOGIN ENSURE THAT WINDOWS HAS THE FOLLOWING PERMISSIONS GRANTED TO 'FIELD DATA COLLECTOR'

    • Location
      Purpose:
      Provide GPS data for surveys
      Allow for Bearing to Site to work
      Turn by turn navigations
      Providing current location on Maps
      Capture data for the Location prompt in Periodic Survey


    • Bluetooth
      Purpose:
      Scan and connect external Survey Devices such as a DVM2130 & Geode External GPS


    • Camera
      Purpose:
      Capture Images for Periodic Survey's


    • Storage - specifically the ability to access the following file path: C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Local\Packages\com.aiworldwide.aim_fhj61jcsknp6j\LocalState
      Purpose:
      To store and access Survey Files

Note: If you are using a DVM 'Display' and 'Sleep' need to be set to 'Never' on Battery Power​ - failure to do so will result in connection issues.

 5. Once all Permissions are Granted you are now good to login - note that the login page will be launched in a separate browser web page. This is by design and normal.

Login to the Webpage using your credentials.




 6. Once Login is Complete - Navigate back to the Field Data Collector Application. 

Installation and Login are Complete
