(AI KB) Mesa3: Upgrade to Android 14 from Android 11

Purpose: Walkthrough on how to upgrade a Mesa3 Tablet from Android 11 to Android 14

CRITICAL NOTE: The upgrade process will wipe user data. Be sure to back up all survey files and remove any SD cards before proceeding. The tablet should be plugged in throughout the update process.

1. Back up survey data:
   1. In PCS Field Data Collector, go to Settings > Disaster Recovery
   2. Select Backup

1. Select a backup location on the SD card, enter a filename, and then tap Save.
   Be sure to remove the SD card before proceeding

3. Remove the SD card. The SD card is located in the battery compartment of the Mesa3.
   1. Open the battery cover
   2. Remove the battery
   3. Remove the SD card

1. Backup tablet user data to Google cloud storage

Android Apps and System Menu

1. Open the Apps menu and browse for Settings
2. Open the Settings app and browse for System
3. Open the System menu and browse for Backup
4. Select Backup and tap Turn On

5. Tap Back Up Now in the following menu

1. Update the tablet to Android 14
   1. Open the Apps menu and browse for Settings
   2. Open the Settings app and browse for System
   3. In the System menu, browse for System Update

1. Tap System Update. Then, tap Download and Install. The installation process will take several minutes.

1. The tablet will restart during the update process. After restarting, tap Next in the update menu to restore user apps and data from Google cloud storage.
2. Verify that the tablet is running Android 14 by opening the Settings app and selecting About Tablet
3. Reinstall the SD card and battery in the battery compartment.
4. Restore the PCS Field Data Collector survey data
   1. In PCS Field Data Collector, go to Settings > Disaster Recovery
   2. Select Restore
   3. Select the backup location from step 1 and tap Restore
