Purpose: This article explains how to use the DVM2130 Digital Voltmeter, covering LED indicators, charging, and connecting to the PCS Field Data Collector app. It highlights the green status light and blue charging light functions, advises charging with a standalone charger (not via MESA tablet), and details Bluetooth or USB-C connection steps within the FDC app. Common issues include device not found, no light, or charging problems.
Applies to: Internal & External
Items Required:
- DVM2130 (Hardware: Device)
- PCS Field Data Collector (Software)
- A Bluetooth Enabled Device (Hardware: Device)
- MESA Tablet
- Archer 4
- BYOD - Apple & Android Devices
Steps:
- LED Lights: There are two lights on the device -
- Green status light
Blue charging light
*If the light will not come on - the device is fully dead and requires a charge to operate.
Green Status Light: Once the device is powered on, this will blink consistently at around 1 pulse per second. Once the DVM has successfully connected to a device, this light will begin to pulse slower.
Green Light Example
Blue Charge Light: This light will turn on when anything is plugged into the device via the USB-C port. It has no other interaction, so please see the charging section below for our best practices.
Blue Light Example
Charging: It is important to plug the DVM in via a standalone charger, just like how one might charge their phone.
NOTE: DO NOT plug the DVM into the MESA tablet to charge. This will not provide enough power to charge the DVM.
- If the device is fully dead*, please leave it to charge for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power the device back on.
- The DVM can take roughly 7-8 hours to charge fully. There is not a visual indication on the device that it has been fully charged. The blue light will always remain on while plugged in.
Connecting to the app: Here are some tips for getting your device connected to FDC.
*DO NOT connect your DVM directly to your Android/iPad's Bluetooth settings. If you have, open the Bluetooth settings and make your device forget the connection. This will keep it from being able to connect within the FDC app.
While inside the FDC Application:
- select DVM
- Or go to Setting>Connections>DVM
- From here you may either connect over Bluetooth or USB.
NOTE: If you use a hard-wired connection, make sure it is USB-C to USB-C. You might also receive a message similar to below - make sure to check the box and accept.
- Back on your home page there is an indicator of the battery level
on the left. If this indicator is visible, the DVM is connected.
- If you are on FDC 2.3 or later - the FDC application will remember the last DVM connected. After connection is established, you can return to the main page, power your DVM and it will attempt to auto connect with a message similar to below -
*If you power off the DVM while it is already connected this automatic process will not occur again until the app is restarted.
Expected Result: Clarify common issues as shown below
Common Issues:
- DVM Not found
- DVM Has no light
- DVM Will not charge
